Gildlings agency will help illustrators in the age of AI

As illustration-led publishing continues to grow, a new literary agency looks to represent a range of visual storytellers, from picture book artists to graphic novelists

Based in Melbourne, Gildlings is a new illustration-led literary agency which will look after a broad range of visual storytellers working largely across children’s books and graphic novels. Launched in May this year by the Jacky Winter Group, the agency is lead by agent Naomi Perry.

While many people will be familiar with the concept of a literary or illustration agency – and have some idea of what they do in terms of getting authors’ and/or artists’ work in front of clients – Gildlings offers something different.

“We’re a little bit of a hybrid: a literary agency that sits within a broader commercial art agency,” says Perry. “So our focus is on specifically representing artists, illustrators and visual storytellers in publishing. I pitch our artists to publishers for illustration work on existing book projects, but I’m also here to help artists develop their own picture books, or graphic novels, or illustrated non-fiction projects.”
