The Humanium Metal Initiative by Great Works / Akestam Holst / NoA

This project was selected for the Advertising – Integrated Campaigns category in The Annual 2018, CR’s award scheme celebrating the best in commercial creativity

This clever initiative from Swedish NGO IM is based around the idea of re-using metal from confiscated firearms, generating revenue to help rebuild conflict-torn societies and support victims of armed violence.

The first weapons destruction programme dedicated to Humanium Metal was held in November 2016 in El Salvador. Working closely with the Salvadorean authorities, IM produced a ton of Humanium Metal. As part of the initial phase, five brands signed up to use Humanium Metal in their production. All are now using it in products ranging from watches to home interiors and fashion, with the first products due to reach consumers in the summer of 2018.

By purchasing a product made from Humanium Metal each consumer becomes directly involved in the efforts to support weapon destruction programmes and victims of armed violence.
