The Lioness Crest by Wieden+Kennedy Amsterdam
This project was selected in the Design – Brand Identity category in The Annual 2018, CR’s award scheme celebrating the best in commercial creativity
For 46 years, the Netherlands Women’s National Football Team, known as ‘de Oranje Leeuwinnen’ (the Orange Lionesses), had worn shorts bearing the same badge as the Dutch men’s team – a lion. For the UEFA Women’s Euro 2017 tournament, hosted by the Netherlands, Wieden + Kennedy worked in partnership with Nike and the KNVB (The Royal Dutch Football Association) to change the crest to a more appropriate lioness.
