School of Visual Arts Senior Library by Hinterland

This project was selected in the Design – Editorial category of The Annual 2018, CR’s award scheme that celebrates the best in commercial creativity

The School of Visual Arts’ Senior Library book is a longstanding tradition at the New York university, a portrait of the Design and Advertising students as they are just about to embark on their careers.

For the latest book, studio Hinterland  was inspired by Choose Your Own Adventure children’s books. “The goal of these books was to excite and entertain (as well as teach kids how to read), but at their core they contained an elemental truth: that life is made up of important choices with real consequences,” the studio says.

“We included 352 projects from more than 2,000 submissions, and assigned them to 16 different sections (inspired by the class of ’16) according to the content, rather than category, of the design. There are a few ways to navigate the book. The jacket doubles as a poster with a visual index of the students on one side and an alphabetical index on the other (with faculty/majors noted). If you prefer to just flip through the pages, information in the gutter will lead you to additional work from that student.”
